Our story begins the day I met my wife’s grandfather. He shared stories of the old days, the challenges he faced as a man, a father and a provider but he did so with a sense of pride and a fondness for the day’s past. It was clear that those were the best days of his life, building friendships, a family unit and a career.
At the time, I didn’t know that he was, like me, a watch guy - his pride and joy, his grail (grael) was a quartz powered, gold plated Rado Diastar Day Date with an Arabic day wheel. This watch has since been passed down to my wife. He was very proud to have owned it and to him it was a token of some of his achievements in life.
A ‘grail watch’ means very different things to different people – it’s not the rarity, exclusiveness or price of the timepiece, but the unique story the piece has to tell.
